Author Feature: Barbara Pierce

Happy Wednesday, everyone! I am pleased to introduce Barbara Pierce, today's "Word Wizard". Barbara has a new book out, Scandalous by Night, and it is amazing! I stayed up until almost 3 a.m. because I just had to finish it! You can see a trailer for Scandalous by Night here (scroll down to the middle of the page). You can also read an excerpt here.

A SINFUL SCHEME…
Even among that band of rakes known as les sauvages nobles, Lord Everod’s reputation is truly wicked. Countless willing partners have enjoyed his sensual prowess, but now one lovely innocent has his undivided attention. The alluring Miss Maura Keighly once lost Everod his family’s regard, and almost cost him his life. And no vengeance could be sweeter than the delicious seduction he has planned…

BECOMES A SCANDALOUS PURSUIT
Maura is on the verge of marrying another. Yet no sooner has she set foot among the ton than Everod makes himself known, tempting and taunting her by word and deed, filling her days and nights with illicit longing. His wanton invitation is plain, yet Maura’s passionate response blindsides them both. For the first time, Everod feels something more potent than lust. Simple surrender will never be enough; Everod must possess Maura completely. But the past cannot be so easily forgotten—and some desires are even more dangerous than revenge…

So, without further ado, please welcome Barbara Pierce!
Barbara, tell us a little about your books.
To date, I’ve written nine Regency historicals. My books are made up of dark, sexy alpha males, stubborn heroines, and passion that will make your toes curl! With the exception of my debut, A Desperate Game, my books can be divided between two family series: the Bedegraynes and the Carlisles. Last April, the second book in the Carlisle series, Sinful Between the Sheets received a Romantic Times 2007 Reviewers’ Choice Award for Most Sensual Historical Romance.
Congratulations! What are you working on now?
At the moment, I’m currently in between contracts with my publisher. I’ve already turned in my proposal so I’m in wait-n-see mode.
Yikes - nail biting time!? :0) What is your biggest challenge when it comes to writing?
For me, it’s the synopsis. I’d rather just create a basic outline and write the book. Despite that, I have to admit that once I sit down and write it, I do appreciate having a more detailed summary for the book.
I'm not a huge fan of synopsis writing myself. What books have you read that are now your favorites?
Oh, I could list hundreds. A few from my short list would be: Gentle Rogue by Johanna Lindsey, When Angels Fall by Meagan McKinney, The Immortal Highlander by Karen Marie Moning, & Shadow Lover by Anne Stuart.
I'm adding those to my "to be read" list as we speak! What do you do when you aren't writing?
I read (for pleasure and research), play video games with my kids, & watch movies with my husband.
What is your favorite video game to play with your kiddos?
The games change from month to month. Right now, we're playing Persona 3: FES and Radiata Stories.
Where do you find inspiration?
Everywhere. Inspiration usually strikes when I’m not looking for it.
And how do you keep your creativity charged?
It’s not always easy because of deadlines and family schedules, but I do try to put aside some “me” time each day. I may work out, catch-up with family/friends, read, or do absolutely nothing. I love writing, but there are days when I could easily spend thirteen hours in front of the computer. That isn’t healthy for my body or mind, so I do strive to maintain balance in my life.
As always, here is a random question for you, in the spirit of a new school year: Who was your favorite teacher and why?
My fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Eike. She was one of those awe-inspiring teachers that pushed me beyond my self-imposed limitations.
Anything else you'd like to share?
The fourth installment in the Carlisle series, Scandalous by Night was released earlier this month. To read the excerpt, watch the trailer, or learn more about my other books, please visit my website at http://www.barbarapierce.com/.
Thank you for being here, Barbara. I can't wait for the next installment! :0) You can also find
Barbara on myspace.
We have a signed copy of Barbara's book Scandalous by Night up for grabs so be sure to share what's on your mind! The winner will be chosen by random drawing on Friday.

Beautiful cover, I love stories about rakes and the lady that catches them

Thanks, Bethre. I'll admit I've got a soft spot for unrepentant rakes:)

Hi, Beth!

Great to see you. I've always been partial to the rakes myself! :0)

Miss Maura Keighly/Lord Everod/and a scandulous seduction make for a great read and I would love to read this book.

Barbara Pierce said...

Hi Robin,

What are reading this week? I just finished J.R. Ward's Lover Eternal a few days ago.

Tiffany James said...

Hi, Robyn!

Thanks for stopping by. Miss Keighly and Lord Everod are an electric pair!

Hi, Barbara!

Thanks for stopping in to answer comments!

Did you like "Lover Eternal"? Didn't J.R. Ward just win a RITA? I haven't read them yet.

Right now I am reading "Romancing Mr. Brdigerton" by Julia Quinn.

Hey, Beth,

Barbara asks a good question. What are your reading right now?

Barbara Pierce said...

Tiffany,

Ward did win a RITA this year. I think it was for Lover Revealed. I've only read the first two books so I'm still catching up on the series.

Hi Tiffany, I enjoyed the interview with Barbara. I just learned about her earlier and I wish that I had discovered her sooner! Her stories sound really great. Barbara said Immortal Highlander by Karen Moning is one of her favorites and it's one of mine too. I love all of Karen's book but this is my favorite of them all. Whenever I think about the ending of Adam's story it tears me up.
I'm almost done reading From Dead to Worse from Charlaine Harris then I'm starting Return to Summerhouse by Jude Deveraux or Turbulent Sea by Christine Feehan. I have a huge TBR pile so if I could read faster that would be very helpful, lol.

Tiffany James said...

Barbara,

*Sigh* More books to add to my "to be read" pile...and I was finally making a dent in it! :0) Isn't it great to have so many wonderful books to read?!

BTW, there are fair number of your books sitting at the very top of that pile. I'm addicted! :0)

Tiffany

Tiffany James said...

Dena,

Ditto, baby! As you can see from my earlier comment to Barbara, I finally make some headway in my "to be read" pile and then...Bam! I find a new, amazing author (like Barbara) and throw another handful on there...And I loooove it!

I haven't read any of the ones on your list either. *Gargantuan sigh*
Here we go again... :0)

Barbara Pierce said...

Dena,

I glommed K. Moning's backlist a few years ago. I've enjoyed all of her books, but Adam's book is my favorite.

Barbara Pierce said...

Tiffany,

Should I feel guilty about adding to your TBR list? Nah:D

I've been waiting for this book...

More books for my wishlist, great!
Right now I'm reading Wicked As Sin by Jillian Hunter, I love her Boscastle family and I'm happy she continues to write about them!Next will be Delicious by Sherry Thomas. She is a new-to-me authou, anybody read?

Tiffany James said...

Barbara,

Absolutely no guilt...
What is it contemporary alpha males say? Guilt (actually it's failure, I'm taking license) is not an option! :0) I love your books and am happy to add them to my list. I can't wait until my books are mucking up reader's "to be read" piles! :0)

Tiffany James said...

Eva,

Wonderful to see you here at Armchair Heroines!

Now I'm adding Jillian Hunter to my list!

I read Sherry Thomas's debut, "Private Arrangements", and I enjoyed it. I like her use of language - it seems to flow nicely. I have a copy of "Delicious" sitting in...
you got it, my "to be read" pile!

I working on The Lost Duke of wyndham by Julia Quinn. I just finished book 1 and 2 in the Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer, as you can see I'm all over the place with my reading taste

Tiffany James said...

Beth,

I just finished "Romancing Mr. Bridgerton" and "The Secret Diaries of Miss Mirand Cheever". For the most part I liked them although I was a little surprised with the ending of "Secret Diaries...". I won't say anymore in case you haven't read them.

I love to switch it up between genres within romance. I am so grateful to have wonderful historicals, paranormals, contemporaries, romantic suspense, etc. to choose from!

Tiffany James said...

Beth,

That was supposed to be "Secret Diaries of Miss MIRANDA Cheever". I'm typing too fast for my brain to stay caught up! :0)

I know I'm late to the party (my dh has been hogging the computer and internet -- working at home due to the highway closures because of the DNC here in Denver) but I wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed this interview. Thanks Tiffany and Barbara!

Helen

Barbara Pierce said...

Hi Helen,

Thanks for dropping by!:)

Tiffany James said...

Helen,

The party never stops here at Armchair Heroines, so stop by anytime! :0)

I'm in Colorado, too, and had to get my daughter to DIA (our airport) on Friday...Wow! What craziness! I'm ready to get back to life as normal.
